Having other pursuits helps. One of the best antidotes (for me) is getting away from my desk and computer. But the very best strategy is to read. Reading is one of the best gifts life has to offer.

First: Just write. If you're faithful to this endeavor, you'll find your voice. Second: Find a good story that needs to be told. Third: Find a life partner who encourages and supports you. There is little doubt that I am one of the fortunate to have "married up."

The fourth book in the Blood Relations Series. The working title of which is, If At First.
I've become enamored of my anti-hero, Logan Bell. And to tell the truth, I spent a lot of time during my career sitting in meetings that served no purpose whatsoever. Sometimes, my mind would wander as I considered an appropriate demise for a meeting organizer.

I'm one of those people who likes to spin a good yarn. My first attempt, an early iteration of Bad Money, was originally written in 1992. Unfortunately, my career (and real occupation at the time) got in the way.
When I retired in early 2012, I no longer had an excuse. I had more than enough time and opportunity to write. Still, I didn't put pen to paper until December 2014. I read an article about the dangers and ill-preparedness of our federal government to detect and prevent the detonation of a low yield dirty bomb.

(view spoiler)[Sometimes, the genesis of an idea for a book is an article appearing in the news media (It Is Las Vegas After All). At other times, an idea can spring from a common event, like taking the wrong bag from an airport luggage carousel (Bad Money). Deadly Walkabout had two origins. The first, a planned trip to hike the Cotswolds. The second, finding a favor you've done for a friend actually benefits someone else.
In Deadly Walkabout, Logan Bell fulfills a contract he believes was extended by a familiar crime family patriarch. In fact, the CIA has been using the services of his father-in-law for years (and now Logan) having co-opted the patriarch years earlier. In effect, the Bell/Carrullo families have been unwittingly working for the CIA.
