Hey Cassie. So I enjoyed my time with In The Spirit, and while I'm curious about what happens next (no spoilers please!) I'd be really interested to hear how you landed on the small-town setting in little NZ. It's not a typical setting for the supernatural genre, but seemed to work well :) Can you tell me how you created the setting, and why you chose it?

Well, where to start... Over the last few years I've been actively trying to tap into my culture and bring that into my writing. I actually grew up in a small town in New Zealand, so I know from experience what it can be like and I knew it would provide an interesting social climate for the series I had planned. I've always felt a sense of magic about living on the West Coast of New Zealand, so I really wanted to bring that into play in the Bay, as well as some of my Maori heritage.

So I guess you could say that Kotahi Bay is quite a personal place for me. It's not a replica of anywhere I have lived, but a mish-mash of my real experiences of small town life with elements of the supernatural and paranormal thrown into the mix.

Such good fun!

What are you currently working on?

J.C. Hart Right now I am working on a novel with Alyssa (from In the Spirit) as the main character - it's a blast working with her again, and I hope it answers any questions my readers had after the novella
