I walk away from the computer and think about anything else than writing. I don't push through, because, for me at least, that ruins the fun of the work. I'm lucky in that I'm not usually blocked. Knock on wood.

For pop culture writing at Biff Bam Pop, it's usually when something occurs in the media that I feel I can have an interesting or entertaining take on. It can be when a film or show pushes the right button.

Connecting with people. Seeing your thoughts and words on a screen or a printed page. That's pretty amazing. But really, for me, the idea that people are reading my work and enjoying it is a wonderful feeling.

The fine folks at ECW Press suggested I pitch a title for their Pop Classics series. The first topic that jumped to mind was Twin Peaks. I grew up on the series, I've watched it far too many times, and it just seemed like a natural subject for me to delve deeply into. I'm extremely blessed that my editors liked my idea and my writing and decided to go with my take.

Wrapped In Plastic: Twin Peaks hits stores this February (though it's making its way into people's hands already), so my focus is on spreading the word to Twin Peaks fans. I'm writing every week for Biff Bam Pop, and I've got two potential projects I'm working on, which may or may not ever see the light of day.

Feel like you're always earning the title "writer". Write every day. Be open to comments and critiques. Remember that it's a privilege when people want to read your work. Be kind. Interact with people, especially online. Write for yourself, but write for an audience as well. Have fun when you're writing, or don't write at all.
