Laura Bradford Keep an eye out next fall (2021) for the first book in a brand new cozy series I have coming out with Berkley Prime Crime (Penguin). And I'm so glad you've enjoyed the Southern Sewing Circle and Amish mystery series. I also have the Tobi Tobias Mysteries and the Emergency Dessert Squad Mysteries (both of which are available now).
Laura Bradford At this time, Sherrie, there are no other books forthcoming in this series. That could always change, and may. But for now, if you enjoyed that series, you might enjoy my Tobi Tobias Mysteries or really any of my mysteries as I always like to mix young and old. I do have a brand new series staring in Fall 2021 that you may enjoy, as well.
Laura Bradford What book are you reading so I can better answer that question?
Laura Bradford Not sure how I missed this message--sorry! I'm so glad you enjoyed A Killer Carol. At this time it looked as if that was the last in the series. The publisher could always change their mind, though, so stay tuned to my website/Facebook author page.
Laura Bradford The Southern Sewing Circle series is over with Patterned After Death, and I'm hoping you enjoyed the way those stories all came together at the end. I have given some thought to writing a spin-off, so stay tuned on that.
As for the Amish, it appears, at this time, as if A Killer Carol was the final one. That could always change, but it's looking that way from the publisher at this time.
Laura Bradford Thank you so much, Stormi! I'm sorry to say that, at this time, there are no further books planned in either of those two series. While the Tobi books reviewed very well, they just had difficult gaining traction (aka finding readers). Any shouting out you can do, however, would be greatly appreciated. Nothing sells books like other readers!
Laura Bradford Oooh, good one! I'm going to go with the complete change of someone I once knew. Why? How?
Laura Bradford Kate Burkholder and John Tomasetti. There's something about this couple that you just can't help but root for. They're so real.
Laura Bradford A Churn For the Worse is my most recently released book. So the idea for that book came during a research trip to Lancaster County, PA. I discovered, while on that trip, that the Amish very often purchase retired racehorses to pull their buggies. The mystery-writing side of my brain latched on to that little nugget and the next thing I knew, I had a plot that reached just about every single returning character in the book.
Laura Bradford At this point, what inspires me to write my existing series, is the characters. They've become my friends--friends I want to spend time with. That said, there are always new characters parading around in my thoughts, and those are the ones that prompt me to try new things.
Laura Bradford I'm working on a few things right now. First, early promotion for the debut book in my upcoming Emergency Dessert Squad Mysteries (Éclair and Present Danger, release date: June 7th). I'm also actively writing book # 12 in the Southern Sewing Circle Mysteries I write as Elizabeth Lynn Casey.
Laura Bradford Write every day. Read in the genre you want to write in. And be willing to push yourself.
Laura Bradford I used to imagine the best thing would be seeing my name on a book in a library or bookstore. And while that part is certainly exciting, it's the readers I've met along the way that are truly the best part.
Laura Bradford I'm fortunate on this front (so far) in that I don't deal with that too much. I think that's a byproduct of my work as a journalist back in the early 90's. We had to produce for each and every deadline so writer's block wasn't a luxury we could have.
