Bill Boggs WRITE. Let it flow, let it rip, let the writing come out of you. You'll go back and edit it, and reread it, and as I did with my Spike book, comb through it a third time and "punch it up." Importantly, too often the mental aspect of what it takes to sit down and write is overlooked. You have to have the DISCIPLINE to block out the time several days a week without fail, and you have to have the RESOLVE to see it through. If I were on stage winning an Academy Award for the adaptation of my Spike book to film, my speech would be very short: "Never give up, never give up, never give up." (And the next day everyone would say I stole it from Winston Churchill, who's not a bad example of resolve, by the way.)
Bill Boggs Keep going. But if I don't like what's happening I stop and wait and a solution appears within 24 hours, generally.
Bill Boggs You can do it almost anywhere and it requires little equipment. You are on your own and when you get positive feedback, like people saying I've written a very funny book and that they laughed out loud, that is most gratifying.
Bill Boggs The process inspires me. I have an extremely vivid and wild imagination. I love the world of comedy and being funny. So, channeling what's in my head--the challenge of doing that--is what inspires me.

Bill Boggs I am hard at work on the sequel to The Adventures of Spike the Wonder Dog.

Bill Boggs I reached into a story from my past and brought it into the present. I had a very funny dog, Spike the Wonder Dog, on my syndicated talk show out of North Carolina. He was big star and very popular. Sadly, he was killed-hit by a drunk driver before I left N.C. for my big break in New York. The idea was: What if Spike hadn't been killed and had come with me to NYC, and became a big TV and social media star in today's world? That idea floated into my head and I seized it. The book is narrated by Spike. SO, MY PET BECAME MY AVATAR.
