Dora Musielak Hi Michelle - Springer is about to publish a second edition of my book in its Biographies Series. The new edition has new material (added chapter and translations of Germain-Gauss correspondence) so it's much more comprehensive.

Meanwhile, I'd be happy to send you a copy of the first edition (my compliment) and will alert you when the Springer edition is available for purchase.

Thank you so much for writing.
Dora Musielak I wrote the biography of French mathematician Sophie Germain because I found her story fascinating. Imagine living in Paris in 1789, a time when women were not permitted into universities and thus only a handful of young women like Germain were bold enough to study on their own and fight prejudice. Then combine that with the violent unrest that led to the French revolution, and that's the environment where this woman grew up.

But in addition to writing about her life, I also wanted to explain the mathematics that Sophie Germain developed on her own.
