Karen Day Hi Alyssa - well, I published my first novel in 2007. But I've been writing since I was in the fourth grade. I wrote my first novel when I was 16. It was awful! Very melodramatic and sad. But it was 200 pages and I was very proud of it. Today it sits at the bottom of my desk! Thanks for asking!
Karen Day Hi Allison - well, I don't have a favorite. I love different things about each book. I love Tall Tales because it was my first book and I set it in my hometown. I love Cream Puffs because Madison is a lot like me. And I love A Million Miles because I feel sad for Lucy who lost her mom, and because it was the hardest of my books to write. Thanks for asking!
Karen Day Hi Allison - I have no plans for a book signing (of my own) in the near future. Sometimes I go to the book signings of friends who are coming out with new books. I am teaching this winter through the Lexington Community Education department. Here is their website: http://www.lexingtoncommunityed.org/ Thanks for asking!
Karen Day I hope so! I'm working on a YA novel, about two sisters, right now. It's going to take awhile, however. But thanks for asking!
Karen Day Growing up, I played little league with the boys in my town, just like Madison does. It was a unique situation -- girls didn't play sports with boys back then -- and I thought it would make an interesting book. I also wanted to explore the idea of being a feminist and how problematic that was for a 12-year-old. And I wanted to write about Lake Michigan which is one of my most favorite places in the world!
