A few days ago you wrote a generous review of a book I published for which I am most grateful. I am new to the writing medium and have some technical questions which I would love to discuss. Do you accept personal private correspondence? I avoid social media.

Hello. I'm glad you appreciate my review--which book was it? I'd be happy to help, but I must say that I'm not a great model of a successful writer or publisher. I don't believe I have any particular wisom or insight to impart. However, one thing strikes me. I notice that you "avoid social media." I don't avoid it, exactly, but I am not especially good at it. Nevertheless, my publisher tells me constantly that building a "brand" via social media is essential. For what that's worth.

How do you get inspired to write?
Gregg Sapp This is a total mystery to me. Reading was hardly a popular activity in my family. I don't believe I ever saw my father open a book in his life. Still, inexplicably, I recall how on my first day of kindergarten, when posing for the obligatory photograph, I grabbed a book (I think it was a cookbook) and pretended to be reading from it. I identified myself as a writer before I could even write my name.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Gregg Sapp My just-finished novel, in search of a publisher, is entitled "Fresh News Straight from Heaven," and its about the life and times of Johnny Appleseed. When I was a child growing up in Ohio, while others had adult role models who were athletes or astronauts or great leaders, mine was Johnny Appleseed. Personally, I think that we could all use a little Johnny Appleseed these days.
