Where I get most of my ideas history. Nothing much has been set in the time of King John so I decided to write a story about three children fighting to survive at the end of his reign. Witches, adventure, history, magic, good and evil are all there, including the evil Odo and the king of France.

I read an article in the Telegraph by a 'reviewer' who said 'there was a lot of 'wave crashing' but no sex if you see what I mean'. So I decided to write a book with what she wanted and used my knowledge of naval history and wrote A Soldiers Wind and A Bengal Poppy.

I sit in front of the story I am writing and write a few words then leave it. Later on I go back and do the same writing a few words here and there to get the story moving until I get past the point which stops me writing and the story flows.
