Once I was sitting in my room—I remember the moment, it just clicked into place in my head with no real prompt, the story I should tell. I am passionate about animals, I am an animal advocate/activist. I never thought 'hey I think I will turn that into a story.' Nor did I set out to make this a story with an agenda to tell. But it clicked in my head like a flash: what if the world ran out of animals? What if people could not give up that lifestyle that animal exploitation supports today? What if we go down this road in the next 50-100years and the solution we chose is this: simply replace animals with humans? I thought that would make for an interesting story!

Read read read. All genres, nonfiction too, travel magazines, news articles, blogs, all the fiction you can stand. Write journals. Get to know writing craft books. Many of them. All of this is experience. A writer is much richer and well rounded with an assortment of experiences, all kinds possible. And at the end of the day, take what you want and leave the rest. Those are your words, don't let someone else dictate you as a writer. Be yourself as a writer, discover who you are as a writer, just don't let others tell you what you are supposed to be or that you are wrong for being that.

The characters and worlds inside my head finally have a chance to exist! To write them down on a clean white page so they can come to life inside other heads and through conversations and in reviews and reports and in cover art and so much more. Other people can know those characters that I know so intimately, only I have known until now. It is more than I could ever ask for.
