Haven Qualman If you really want to write, I suggest reading a lot! This is how I do my own research. I'd also suggest carving out a few minutes to write every day, no matter how busy you are. And don't forget to live a little too- experiences in the real world can inspire your writing and give your characters and settings detail and depth.
Haven Qualman I'm currently researching another love story with international locales, this one focuses on two people trying to build a relationship against a back-drop of conflict between groups of people over land and natural resources.
Haven Qualman A story is constantly unfolding in my brain, a narrative to explain why something is the way it is, or how it could be. The littlest thing could trigger a story, like a bumper sticker on an interesting looking car in front of me at a stoplight, or a news story or even a dream. I love to write it down but the hardest part is finding the time!
Haven Qualman I thought about Khamsin Fall for a long time. I wanted to inhabit a totally different place with characters who had nothing to do with my real life. That being said, I ended up setting part of the book in San Diego, where I actually live. That was a good jumping off point because it was familiar. The characters were inspired by people watching and the story just kind of unfolded from my imagination!
