From a very lively conversation between my wife and myself about the role of "legends" in our culture, especially musical ones, who often lead very confined, isolated lives. Made me think of Bob Dylan who became a huge inspiration for a redemptive tale about an estranged father and son.

A novel with a female protagonist who travels an hour or so south of the city where she was raised to find a completely different (Appalachian) culture. She's intrigued, enticed--and gets to know a recent widower and his peculiar young daughter. Pretty soon she's hooked on this family and wants to know their secrets. Meanwhile, she's receiving transmissions from some very old oak trees, which help her know what is the next right step.
