Glad you enjoyed Tears at Sunrise. The next John Howard novel, Stone Ponies, will be released in about 3 weeks. If you liked Tears, you'll love this one. My new Salem Matthews novel, Pieces of January, was released last month and is available at https://tinyurl.com/yd5pn6pm.

Probably not. I don't write horror or flash fiction. I'm sure there are some authors on Goodreads that could do that. Thanks for your question.

In the summer I would go to the magical baseball field in Bill Kinsella's novel, Shoeless Joe. I would look for the dead ballplayers to emerge from the cornfield, and run the bases until I dropped.
I would spend the rest of the year on Randy Wayne White's Sanibel Island, Florida, hanging out at the marina with Doc Ford and the gang.

Any new releases by my favorite authors - John Sandford, Randy Wayne White, Charlaine Harris, Stuart Woods, Harlan Coben, CJ Box, and Rita Mae Brown, to name a few.

I was a member of my college baseball team way back in the late 60s. After one pre-season workout the coach told us to meet at a specific place and time on campus for a team dinner. When I showed up there wasn't a soul around. No, I wasn't late and I wasn't mistaken about the location. I drove down to the one restaurant in town (it was a small town and a small school), but the team wasn't there. I never did find out what happened because I was too embarrassed to ask.
I could certainly see this as a small town mystery where people disappear for no apparent reason. Thanks for the great question!

Good question. Most of my favorite literary characters don't come as a couple. An exception that comes to mind is Randy Wayne White's Doc Ford and Captain Hannah Smith. I enjoy the heat and tension in their relationship, as well as the fact that they are both strong individuals pursuing unconventional lives.

I honestly don't experience that when I'm working on a project. If I'm having trouble coming up with an idea for my next book I know it's time to let my mind rest. The ideas will come, but I can't force it.

I can go wherever my mind takes me and do whatever I want. It's like being given the keys to the candy store with no grown-ups around to spoil the fun.

Expect rejection, a lot of it, before you achieve success. Push the envelope; don't be afraid of offending people. If you try to please everybody, you'll please nobody.

"Silent Waltz" is the fourth novel in my Salem Matthews series. The setting is based on an actual lake house that my grandfather built as a family retreat in 1963. The characters and story just grew out of my imagination.

I don't worry about inspiration. I just sit down at my desk and get to work. For me, the writing itself produces the inspiration.
