Wow, so interesting. Science fiction always takes people to a distant and imaginative world. I always think it is not only a fantasy about the future, but also a metaphor and thinking about reality. I occasionally read this type of books. Do you have any favorite writers or works? Like Asimov, Philip K. Dick, or the recent "Three-Body Problem"? Have you read it?

Clay Davis I am a fan of Jules Verne and the steampunk stories 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Mysterious Island and Robur the Conqueror. I have not read The Three Body Problem.

What was your inspiration for The X-Troop? And what was your favorite part about writing it?

Clay Davis I was looking at some U.S. Army uniforms at an American Civil War re-enactment in Arizona and noticed that some of the uniforms had no insignia saying what unit they were in. I remembered that some current day U.S. Special Forces do not have insignia so I thought what if the U.S. created its own Special Force to fight terrorists in the late 1870's. My favorite part about writing is doing research to learn more the period in which I am writing.
