In addition to an origin story for the rebooted DragonEye, PI series, I'm starting a science fiction parody, Space Traipse: Hold My Beer. This is a serial of adventures of the HMB Impulsive on its continuing mission to travel the galaxy and prove humans are crazy enough to try just about anything and smart and lucky enough to make it work.
Episode one starts April 19 at http://karinafabian.com/test-blog/. The Impulsive is asked to facilitate the courtship of the the prince and princess of warring worlds, but when the prince falls in love with the Ship's Sexy, chaos ensues just as the Union's worst enemy, the Cybers, arrive to absorb both planets into its swarm. It'll take some bending of romantic cliche's, fancy fighting and a wikadas shield to set things right.

Get a thick skin. This is a business of constant rejection, and it's often not personal. Even excellent books get rejected because they don't fit the publisher's needs. So if you have had your book critiqued and polished and it's rejected, shrug it off and submit elsewhere.
A thick skin and confidence is also needed in the critique stage. You need to be able to take constructive criticism and to be willing to tear something apart and revise. I spent all of 2016 doing this with my DragonEye series. I've basically tossed out two attempts at an origin story (50,000+ words) and revised a significant part of my world based on the advice of my new mentor and crit group. The resulting novel is going to be lighter and more fun, but it was hard work, and I've got 20 years' experience novel writing.

Becoming my characters and joining in their adventures, speaking in a different voice and with a different attitude than my own.

I don't believe in writer's block. It sounds like some mysterious, outside force has stopped my writing. If I am not writing, something inside me is causing me to not write - a story intimidates me, I'm not happy with my current books sales, I'm feeling lazy... The only answer is to address the issue and to write, write, write, even if I don't feel like it. Imagine if lawyers got "blocked" or carpenters or police officers and then used that excuse to stop doing their work. Writing, while creative, is still something you must choose to do when the words don't come easily.

My problem isn't getting inspired so much as sitting myself down and getting the words out of my head!

Discovery was a NaNoWriMo work based on some characters my husband and I had come up with - religious sisters who do search and rescue operations in space. The NaNo story was more a character study of Sister Rita and her struggle with doubts about her vocation, especially now that she had fled the Earth to join the Order of Our Lady of the Rescue. As with many NaNoWriMo works, it was a little shallow for my tastes. Over the years I worked on it - 8 - her story became a minor subplot while the overarching challenge was dealing with an alien artifact that let you see into your own soul.
