Jason Thibeault My most recent book, An Ordinary Magic, was penned 20 years ago. I can't remember what the exact inspiration was but I wrote the book for my senior thesis at the University of California, Irvine. It required a tremendous amount of research into Voodoo but also a lot of introspection as well. The book deals with a lot of fundamental issues that I had to tackle around the relationship with both of my dads.
Jason Thibeault I am one of those lucky writers who doesn't need much inspiration. I am always flush with ideas for stories and books and just need to find the time to write them all. I try to carve out a little bit of each day to work on my writing projects (separate from all the daily writing I do) and when it's that time, I simply sit down and start writing. Plane rides are the best!
Jason Thibeault I am currently working on two novels at the moment. The first is a young-adult series titled Dem0n. It will take place over three books and I am about half way through the first. The second book I am working on is my second in the magic realism/literary fiction genre. I have just started to sketch it out.
Jason Thibeault Write. Everyday. Don't feel like you need to produce something meaningful each time. Just write. A blog post. A poem. A letter. Anything. It's the act of writing everyday that keeps the muscles honed.
Jason Thibeault I think the best thing about being a writer is being able to create new worlds. Doesn't matter if it's literary fiction or young adult or sci-fi or fantasy. Every story that you write takes place in a new world even if it is based on the world we live in. I love that feeling. It's what keeps me going everyday.
Jason Thibeault Usually I just let everything go. I stop writing. I stop thinking about writing. I focus my energies and attention on something else. It's like taking a deep, deep breath. When I come back to it, I'm usually refreshed and ready to go.
