Jim Breslin The "thing" with the dog did not actually happen, though there was a dog named Spike brought in frequently to the studio and concerns about who would walk the dog.
Jim Breslin When you hear from someone how much a certain passage in a story moved them. Sometimes the person sends an email or a message or tells you in person. Writing is such a solitary vocation that writers love to hear feedback. I love attending a book club or big critique group and hearing the discussion about characters I've developed.
Jim Breslin Reading powerful stories inspires me. So does listening to musicians or seeing other artists doing awesome work. Everyone I meet that is passionate about their craft makes me want to get back to writing.
Jim Breslin Sometimes I try to write through it. Other times I'll go for a hike, a run or a bike ride and then return to the desk. Just thinking about the story while away from the desk is very helpful and usually sparks a next step.
Jim Breslin Shoplandia was inspired by my time working as a producer at the home shopping channel QVC. The crew worked tirelessly, and there was often tension, but there was also a spirit in the studio that I wanted to capture.
