Lynn Baber Every writer is unique, but there's one benefit most of us find appealing - going to work in shorts, sweats, yoga pants, or pajamas. Imagine my surprise the first time I went live on Zoom for a web conference and discovered my face was plastered at the top of the screen for people around the world to see. Whew! At least I was fairly put together!

Another great aspect of writing is voice and style. You get to sound like you and write your own way. Most days this is a good thing, but other days this is a bad thing. When you're in your groove it's fantastic. But when you're trying to meet a word count goal and your mojo won't kick in, your writing is flat. And you know it.

As Scarlet Ohara said, "Tomorrow is another day." Just don't publish what you wrote today until approved by your editor.
Lynn Baber Self-awareness is important for aspiring writers. Why do you want to write? To make a million dollars? Become famous? Because someone suggested you write a book? Or, do you have a message you passionately want to share?

The road is smoother is you know why you write. You may not make a million bucks (chances are slim to none), but you'll be far more successful if you know your goal before you begin.
