Anything, really. A dream, a picture in a magazine, a particular song, little things can trigger a mental picture of a scene or a piece of dialogue. The key is to be mindful of it and to take a notepad and pen with you everywhere to write it down.

My advice is to read and if something feels forced, step away from it and work on something else. Let your emotions flow. Write for the sake of writing. It can always be cleaned up afterward.

Actually... Summer Lovin' is a story loosely based on my own early teen life and overnight camp experiences. Out of all the books I've written and working on, I truly want to finish this one. I hold it near and dear to my heart...

Right now I have several pots on the stove (this, folks, is called a "julie-ism". It's when I can't remember the actual phrase so I improvise with my own.).
I'm working on "Summer Lovin'" still, and "The Last Curl", as well as "From Heaven". Hopefully I'll get one or the other completed before my whole head turns grey (which won't happen because I'll dye it, ha!).
It's been difficult to focus because I've been working two jobs (day job and formatting for other authors), and I'm a dance/softball mom. One of these days scientists will come up with a way to clone people and I'll be the first in line with my credit card in hand, ready to go!

The best thing about being a writer is the ability to express myself and have others relate or empathize. When I see someone has reached that a-ha moment or has grasped what I was going for within the story, it's such a rush.

The way I deal with writer's block is to try to keep busy and not let the lull of the moment get to me. I'll look at pictures and try to reminisce on things that might've happened. With trying to incorporate scenarios from my past, it helps to revisit via photos. I also read, watch TV, and some of my favorite movies.
