For me, yes I have to be in "the zone" Its like a parallel universe. But I don't really think there is such a thing as writers block. I think its just not enough time because most people have busy lives.

Write what you know. Draw from your own personal experiences is always best in my opinion. Make notes, think it over but sit down and do it. don't worry about if its perfect or not just get it down. Books get god in the editing.
