Sometimes I just start typing and hope something intelligent eventually appears in front of me. Other times, I go for a short walk or do a mundane physical task like washing dishes, to take my mind off the piece I'm supposed to be writing while also giving my mind space to keep percolating thoughts about what to write next.

I've always enjoyed the process of writing on a blank piece of paper with a pen or some other writing tool. Although I write mostly non-fiction, I enjoy the ability to put down whatever words come to my mind and then rearrange those words until they tell the story I want to tell. It's a freeing, powerful experience.
