However, because I write eco-fiction, those 'voices' are always deeply shaped by the real world. A character might inherit the fierce resilience of an activist I met, the quiet wisdom of a mentor, or even the mood of a specific woodland I’ve visited. They are a collage of real human spirit and the natural world.
