I'm an aspiring writer, but I'm dealing with two things: I get discouraged every single day because 96% of manuscripts are rejected, and I haven't had an idea for years, literally. There's too many people wanting to be writers, and knowing there's so much competition just kills me a little every day. When I get motivated, immediatly something appears about the industry that kills it. Any tips on how to deal with this?
Patricia Preston Totally disregard all the stuff you mentioned and write the book of your heart. Enjoy the journey. Don't be concerned over things you can't control like the market and the competition.

If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?
Patricia Preston Middle Earth from Lord of the Rings. I would become an elf and be tall and beautiful and wear elegant robes.

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?
Patricia Preston I don't know about a mystery but my life could definitely be a comedy.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Patricia Preston I never know where I get ideas from. Sometimes a snippet will pop in my mind and it will evolve. For the current book, it was Baby John Doe.

How do you get inspired to write?
Patricia Preston Pictures of good-looking guys help! LOL! Seriously, I was born a storyteller so writing is just what I do.

What are you currently working on?
Patricia Preston Contemporary romances for Kensington Books Lyrical Shine imprint. They are fun, somewhat sexy with a charming, feel-good atmosphere. They are lighthearted books and a great popcorn, escape-from-reality read that I hope will entertain and make you smile.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Patricia Preston Make sure you finish the story. Keep at it until you reach the end.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Patricia Preston Getting to live in a fantasy world where you can manipulate everyone. Sorta. :)

Patricia Preston Listen to music. That always gets me going.

Do you do anything in particular to get reviews? And how do you feel about writers giving their book away for free (as in ebooks) in the hopes of driving more readers to their other work?
Patricia Preston Hi Betty! I just now found this question. Let's see, about reviews, I've offered up my first born and all that kind of stuff. Seriously, I do tell readers that reviews are appreciated and hope they will take the time to do one. I think free books are one way to find new readers. Also offering a chapter on your blog is another way for a reader to sample your writing.

Thanks for stopping by. I have the Western here. And I am trying to get To Save A Lady up. Having a problem with duplicates on it. Will let you know when I get that fixed. The other books will be added as they come out later this year and next year. Also the short stories are on a different page. Patricia Ann Preston.
