My wife and I enjoy shopping at estate sales and craft shows. At one show, we purchased an old computer. There was a CD in the tray. What if there was government secret information on that tray? What if both the U.S. government and a foreign government want the information back, and they want to eliminate anyone who saw the information? Sounds like a good plot for one of my Black and White Club thrillers!

I married the solution to writers block. She checks my word count at the beginning of every writing session. I can't get up, until I have written 1000 words. Plus, she throws me a couple of homemade chocolate chip cookies to keep me motivated. I find a set goal for each session keeps me on track.

I love story telling, and as a writer you get paid to do it. Although, I am still looking for the paid part.

Resist the urge to edit, until you finish your novel. Otherwise, you will have the perfect first chapter and nothing else.

I write most the book in my head, before I begin to put it on paper. So when I am ready to write, it just comes to life. The finished product changes as I write, so I don't know how the final story will turn out, so the unknown inspires me to write to the end to find out.

I have been writing this book for the past 30 years. I spent 27 years in the Coast Guard including 11 years at sea. So, I have conducted law enforcement operations all over the world. I always carried a small note book with me to take notes on people, places, settings, and plot ideas. I did the same thing, when I worked at the White House. I also have extensive experience as an intelligence officer. In the intelligence world, we deal with two types of information, Black and White. In the Black world, everything is classified to protect sources and methods. In the White world, information is used to prosecute criminals and organizations. One of the biggest challenges in law enforcement is use black world information to prosecute criminals without revealing sources and methods which could be compromised in a trial. Blending both of these worlds, and the inherent conflict, is what led me to the The Black and White Club series of books.
