Jim Kosmo Aha. Well, a writer can do anything he/she can imagine...be any age, travel through time, expand his IQ, bank account, or skills, in your parallel universe. Live an alternate life.
Jim Kosmo Write. Don't worry about what you put down, just write. The real work comes later in revision. Don't pay attention to all the "experts" who will have more advice than you can imagine. AND, don't worry about "the rules." It is essential to know the rules before you break them, but once you master them, you're free to create your own voice, even if that means bend or busting a few. It's your voice. That's what makes you different, but in revision you need to discover if your voice is what your audience wants.
Jim Kosmo Started on a memoir and moved to fiction to talk about how mental health issues impact families. My story talks about a young mother with two kids making her way in the 1950s with her husband locked away in the asylum. And, I toss in a murder, just to make things interesting.
