Maria Ross I try to listen to my body. If the ideas are not coming, maybe today is not the right day or I need to move, walk, or get new perspective. But often it's about just being disciplined to sit down and WRITE even when you don't feel like it because that primes the pump for the muse to come find you.
Maria Ross Highly capable, well-educated woman goes into an executive board meeting only to find her male counterparts mansplaining her own ideas back to her.
Maria Ross My summer reading list is currently So You Want to Talk About Race, Parenting from the Inside Out, No Filter and A Force for Good.
Maria Ross My best advice is to be way more disciplined than I am and write every day! I do write a lot for my work, but it's not always "heart-nourishing" writing. However, I find that the more I write, even if it's 10 minutes a day, the more I want to write, the more I find my true voice, the more I find that words come easier to me. A friend has always said that "good work gets found" and writing more increases your chances of that. So journal, start a blog, write email newsletters to your followers, attempt 5 pages of your new book. Anything to keep that writing muscle from atrophying.
Maria Ross Motivated by our current social and political climate, I'm currently working on a book about how organizations can put empathy into action and why it's not just the right thing to do, but can be a big strategic competitive advantage for leaders, cultures and brands.
