Christine Sneed Thank you, Michel, for your kind note. I am no longer with Bloomsbury, unfortunately. What I recommend you do, especially for the US book market, is find an agent if you don't already have one. You can use a guide like this one from Writers' Digest Books - The Novel and Short Story Writers Market - to get acquainted with how to navigate the NY publishing market - both publishers and agents - and also learn about smaller, independent presses: https://www.amazon.com/Novel-Short-St...
Christine Sneed You've heard some version of this before, I'm guessing, but there's nothing more important: you have to seek out and read with a singleminded passion books by writers with minds greater than your own.

You also have to be a little ruthless in the face of temptations that can easily lure you away from writing. When the friend calls just before you planned to get back into the short story you've been writing lately and asks you to go shopping, your answer should unequivocally be, "No, but thank you for asking. Maybe next time."

People who aren't writers sometimes don't take to heart the fact that your writing is real work, just as any day job you might also have is.

Protect your time at the desk - it is sacrosanct.
