The vacant old house on the hill had an infamous and mysterious past, but these kids wanted to go to school on Monday claiming they could take whatever it tossed at them the week before Halloween. Hearing nothing when they stuck their head in the front door and valiantly entered but immediately ran back out because the first in the group had disappeared.

The "Ghost Trail" was formerly a road connecting two towns where I grew up. The road eventually became obsolete, the pavement disappeared, but the trees on either side grew quite large, creating a rugged bike path. I could envision 100 stories about that trail.

I've not experienced this. There are times when I need to make things happen within the story, but I don't immediately know how to write it. I used mental sticky notes to help visualize. I make a note, put it on the wall, then move it around to get it in the correct place, then add more and finally take some away.

Your imagination takes flight if you're writing fiction. You can make anything happen; just make sure it makes sense within the context of your story. Writing is like working out or running a marathon - when you're done, you feel amazing.

You have to be driven to do this. You have to be a bit fearless because once you write something, you're inviting feedback. Use the writing tools available to you, like Word or Grammarly, to help you get your writing rhythm. Don't use a GPT tool - it's like saying you ran a mile in 4:00 minutes when you know you could never do it. Writing should be your voice, not a machine. Lastly, find an editor, then find another. You can't do this without editors.

I'm creating an audiobook version of Pali, and I'm also writing a sequel. There are some early discussions with a production company about making Pali a movie, but they are very early.

I actually didn't want to write this novel. I knew writing was very hard, and I didn't feel I was a good writer. So I wrote this as a screenplay first because it seemed like creating a movie would be a faster path to making it all reality. It wasn't, so I had to give in and write this as a novel. I'm glad I did this.

I observed a demonstration where an A.I. system was making an appointment for a person. It was fascinating to watch the A.I. system think and pivot in real-time as the circumstances changed. It got me thinking about A.I., so I started researching the data requirements to run an A.I. system. I developed an architecture for A.I. but was told by a big, well-known company I was 14 years ahead of them, so I would have to wait. So I wrote Pali as a story rather than waiting for the world to catch up to me.
