Keep believing in your story, keep letting it grow. Sometimes putting it away can be magical. It will grow on its own, putting out roots and tendrils while sitting in its drawer. I did that many times for Petra.

I met Petra Kelly in 1986! We brought her to speak at a city-wide peace festival in Vancouver. She knocked my socks off with her vision of ecology, feminism, and peace, racial justice and indigenous rights. She was incredibly charismatic. And everywhere she went, she had her lover with her - a German General! Such an odd couple, polar opposites united by desire and a desire for political renewal. Years later, when I heard she'd been murdered, I thought - I must write this story.
