As with most writers, I don't need to get inspired, I'm cursed with seemingly always having about five thousand ideas bursting out of my head. As a new father, it's just a case of finding the time to get them down.

I was living in London, feeling homesick and lapping up all the old Irish myths. At the same time I'd just started writing a murder story set in a small Irish town. By some odd twist of fate both combined and my book became an old myth repurposed as a modern murder story.
