Kate Hilton Hi Annie,
So sorry to hear that you've been unwell. All my best wishes for a speedy recovery!
Not to worry about the timing. Mid-March sounds great. You can focus on any aspect of the book that speaks to you ... most people are interested in the perspective on modern marriage from the 'having it all' generation. But I'm happy to answer questions about anything that sparks your curiosity.
My email address is kate@katehilton.com, and that's the best way to reach me with your questions.
Remind me: do you have a copy of the book yet? If not, I'll send one along. Email me with your mailing address.

Kate Hilton Hi Jennifer,

I wish I had a Lil too! Sadly, she is a pure creature of fiction. But we can drink Veuve Clicquot and think of her.

When I set out to write a book, I had a few themes in mind. I wanted to talk about the struggle of my generation of women (I'm 43) to 'have it all'. I was certainly puzzling through questions myself about what it means to have it all, whether or not such a state is even possible, and whether or not I had achieved it. I also wanted to think more deeply about expectations of longterm marriage, and how realistic they are. And lastly, I thought there was something that I could say about the frustrations of mid-career.

Sophie's particular struggles were different from mine, but her general experience of midlife dissatisfaction was certainly something that I (and virtually of the women of my acquaintance) had grappled with. In my case, one of the things I felt was missing from my life at the time I wrote the book was a creative outlet. So you could say that The Hole in the Middle is the answer to my own questions about what 'having it all' might mean.

Thanks so much for reading and recommending my book!

Warmly,

Kate
Kate Hilton Dear Annie,

My profound apologies. I somehow missed this question way back when you posted it. Of course, you will be booked now, but I would love to be featured on your blog whenever you have a vacancy. The best way to reach me is by email at kate@katehilton.com.

Kate Hilton Hi Tyler,

Thanks so much for your kind words.

I published in e-format and the publication itself didn't cost me anything. I did pay for editing services and a cover design. It is worth investing some money in those areas, but it doesn't have to cost a fortune. My experience was the self-publishing was very accessible in terms of cost. I budgeted around $1500 but you could certainly do it for less.

Yours,

Kate
