I find writer's block affects me when I'm trying to write something specific. Whether it's a restaurant review or a chapter of my book. So I find the best way to counteract that is to free-write. That is, just write unrelated scenes with unrelated characters. Once I'm on a roll, I find I can go back to my main projects just fine.

Entertaining and/or informing people always gives me a good feeling. But when you're actually writing, getting absorbed in the plot and the characters, the scenes and the dialogue. That entire creative process is empowering, in a way.

I'm working on a number of projects at the moment - two novels and a self-help book. I'm dedicating most of my attention to a novel tentatively titled "An Ulterior Motive", intended as the first of a trilogy of LGBT-romance crime stories. It's a mixture of real-life events and stories experienced by either me, my family or friends, plus history and even dreams. I find the subconscious can often get me over a hurdle when I'm struggling to move my plot on.

I had already written a book set in my fictional town of Berylford called Sin & Secrecy, but I left a lot of questions unanswered, leaving room for a prequel and a sequel. Lust & Liberty is the prequel, which I decided to publish first. I will now have to go over Sin & Secrecy to make sure everything fits!
