Writing is formally setting aside the time to complete all the thoughts that we all have, and may even complete inside our heads. Can you know you understand or really don't understand something until you express it? It is a luxury in the way any developed skill is. A gymnast who shows what the body we are all given is capable of, a carpenter who with universal spatial skills can build something that any of us could if we devoted the years to the rough shape and fine nuance of skills. It is an indulgence to do what you must instead of living in as much compromise as possible.

I have a few things I'm rotating though. For April I'm doing the International Pwoermd Writing Month on twitter. See everyone who's participating here: http://napwowrimo.blogspot.ca

Writing is putting symbols to a page. Start in order to get over the hump of starting, continue past your own resistance, form a habit of paying attention to what you pay attention to, record your blind spots as well as your focal points. Transcribe someone else's words. Work a form. Substantially edit something. The original can't be harmed and if you already are closed, the worse that can happen is to remain closed. But you might open, or learn or play. Lower the stakes on your own game while bringing it up by keeping at it.

Read as much as you can from as wide of assortment of styes that you can find, trying to understand why a writer makes the choices they do. Emulate. Diverse. Play. Don't railroad yourself to one objective.
