Leanne Statland Ellis Do you know that feeling you get when you're reading a good book and therefore all is right with the world? For me, it's the same deal with writing. When the words are flowing and I’m in the zone, that is my happiness.
Leanne Statland Ellis I must start with the answer that people get all the time because it is so true: read, read, read! And then write, write, write! Write creative stories. Write poems. Write in a journal. It all counts! Other tips: read your writing aloud to yourself. I promise that you will catch mistakes this way that you would otherwise miss.
Leanne Statland Ellis Because I am also a teacher and a mom, my writing time is very precious to me, so writer's block can feel like a Very Big Deal. When it strikes, I feel like I don't have the time for it! However, the creative process wants what it wants, and you really can't force it. If I'm really stuck, I remind myself to have faith that it will all work itself out when it's meant to. Then I go walk the dogs, read a good book, do some yoga, or get my hands messy in the garden. A good night of sleep is also a great tool for sorting it out.

In the end, I always come back to the characters. What are they thinking? What are they feeling? Once I remind myself to go inside their world, I'm back on track.
