A. Marie First, write. Sit down and write. Do not think about how others do it, or what others might think. Just write. Your own voice and style will come out eventually even if it doesn't at first and that's okay. We need alllll the different voices and styles. That's the beauty of books.
Second, adapt. My biggest piece of advice is be ready to adapt. Change a scene if needed. Change a title, a character, a plot point. Change, change, change. And don't be afraid of it, even if it hurts.
A. Marie I'm really good at knowing what I don't want rather than what I do want sometimes, so if I'm stuck on a scene I'll write it anyway then sit on it for a few days weeding out what I know I don't like about it. The right path usually presents itself to me in the process and I go back and rewrite it.
If I literally don't feel like writing, I don't. I try my hand at other creative outlets because creativity begets creativity. Also, long drives help too.
