(Real life story)
Iain Parke Hi

I think 'in passing' is the answer here. The books feature the UK arms of two main fictional 'international' clubs (with a third in a minor role) and I took quite a bit of care to make sure as far as possible their details, colours etc did not match any existing UK 1%er clubs.

To give a bit of context in the footnotes there are a couple of references to these two fictional clubs being part of a 'big six' set of clubs and a bit of reference to comparative terminology (prospect, probationary... etc).

Hope you enjoy them!
Cheers Iain
Iain Parke I was in a blind panic, shoving my clothes into the washing machine, and pouring in the powder from the packet which talked about the enzymes dissolving away fats and grease.

But what is a body, I thought, if not just a big bag of fats and grease?
Iain Parke Hi Jodell

Thanks for the question, it’s a good one.

I’m a bloke and yes the MC world is a very male centric place and so my books tell stories that are very male focussed in that the main characters are men dealing with other men.

Given the archetypal image of bikers it would be very easy to just then portray women in a very sexist and simply sexualised way / roles but I wanted to try and avoid that as I was aiming for a more grounded “realistic” approach. My male characters will have wives, girlfriends, mothers even, etc so I have tried to make the women who appear (to the extent they do and I’d be the first to admit they are mainly ‘walk on parts’) and they guys’ relationships with them a bit more real world and a bit less caricatures.

As a result I’d say there is romance yes, but of a fairly gentle sort. If you’d like a flavour of what I mean then there’s a short story / extract of one of my books in a free compilation of romance stories: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

Interestingly, my first bike book (Heavy Duty People https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...) is currently in development for TV and one of the things that is happening in the process of scripting is that the main female character’s backstory, relationships and motivations are being explored much more fully so she will become a more centre stage character.
