Hi. Such a good question. What struck me most about research for this book was the extent of suffering on both sides of war, ie, for those living under occupation and those living in England with the onslaught of bombs. I was heartbroken to learn of the bombing of the school in canning town. The little boys comment when he was pulled from the rubble, when he said he had ' a hurt' really brought home to me how much children suffered with deeply traumatic incidents. He lost his mother and grandmother and was expected largely to get on with it. The same is true of children living in the Lodz ghetto. The events of September 1942, when all children were ordered from the ghetto to the death camp, was beyond all imagining. harrowing doesn't even cover it. But it felt important not to sugar coat the truth, these events happened and I felt I owed it to those who lived through them to not dilute them, I thankyou , the reader, for sticking with it. I hope as authors and readers we are bearing witness to the past, and acknowledging their suffering and their bravery. Thanks. A question for you now if I may? How did you discover my book?
