I work on another story for a while. (I usually work on two or three books at a time, anyway.) I go for a walk in the national forest that surrounds my home. I go fishing. I read one of my older books, again. I suffered a bad brain injury about two years ago. I could not tell you how old I was, or my birth date or anything else. I was shocked to learn I had written a dozen novels! So... I know what really bad "writer's block" is like! Looking at my old records, I was also shocked to see that I was on my way to being very wealthy. By books were selling very, very, well! I noticed that about a year ago, all of a sudden, few wanted to read my books. What happened? Now, I have a different kind of writer's block. Why bother?

"My Hungry Hunter," takes place during the Great Depression. The FBI is new, and not always going after the KKK as much as they should. And Prohibition has fueled organized violent crime. My main character, Sam Hunter, is suffering from the grief of finding his wife hanging from a tree in his front yard. And, he is a near-alcoholic. He suspects it was his former deputy colleges, because he testified against fellow officers, who lynched some black men. They were put on Death Row, and awaiting execution. Because of this, he blames himself for her death. He keeps his drinking under control and manages to do a lot of good and save some young girls from sex slavery at a house of prostitution. He also survives attempts on his life. He finally gets the chance to kill the man who murdered his wife. The ending will surprise you. My history teacher was a World War Two Bataan Death March survivor. My father also fought the Japanese. I learned from them, the only thing that stands between evil and the innocent are good men willing to die for what they believe in.
