I don't really have a specific summer reading list. I do have a list of over 150 books I want to read. Some are new releases. Some are older books. When selecting a book to read, I dip into this list.
Specifically, I'm looking for Michael Connelly's newest book.
I'll also be reading some fantasy and sci-fi novels as I explore writing in these genres.

This question has me stumped because I can't see anything in my own life that was all that mysterious. Looking back, I can see how my life has played out. There were times going through it when I wondered what would happen. But from this side it all seemed to happen naturally with God's divine intervention.
I can see his hand in guiding my marriage and raising our family, in the career choices, in moving halfway across the country because we believed he called us to Texas. His hand has been on me in following the dream to be a writer and teacher and coach.
The biggest mystery is why did God chose me, why did he plan this life for me. This is the mystery in everybody's life, I guess. And I won't know all the answers until I get to heaven.
From where I stand now, I could say I lived through events that were mysteries at the time, but now I see they were all part of God's plan for me.

Of course, I'm partial to the couple I created in my Riverbend Sagas series, Michael Archer and Rachel Stone. After spending several years with them going through many adventures, they've become dear friends.
My other favorite fictional couple is Robert B. Parker's characters Spenser and his girlfriend, Susan Silverman. Their relationship is so real and vibrant. Beyond their love for each other, I enjoy the sparks that fly between them in their banter and their emotions. I admire their dedication and loyalty. It's always a pleasure to read and re-read them.

The idea for my most recent book which is a speculative novel came from my weekly critique group, the Society of Solitary Scribes. Two of the members write speculative and challenged me to try it. I had just finished a project so I was ready to try something new.
It took a little of a year to compete what turned out to be two books in a series. I have notes to do a third book and ideas for a companion book.
I really enjoyed creating a story world outside of anything I had ever done with animals, food, countries, religions, magic, shape-shifters, healers, etc.
It was also the first project I wrote organically without an outline. And it's the first time I've written a first person point of view.
A great experience and I'm looking forward to doing it again.
