Dawn Ross Brainstorm writing is my number one method of defeating writer's block. If I'm stuck on something, I write whatever comes to my head no matter how ridiculous. I then follow each idea with more writing until something clicks.

When that fails, I read. When I read other books, I'm not looking to steal their ideas. I'm merely looking for inspiration.

And when that fails, I take a 1-2 week break and do some artwork instead.
Dawn Ross I love stretching my imagination. Breathing life into my story is the greatest feeling in the world.
Dawn Ross It's not enough to write your story down. You need to learn the art of writing. Sadly, I learned this the hard way. I wrote a fantasy trilogy years ago without much of a background in writing. It showed. It got me cheated by an agent. It didn't earn me any negative reviews, but I didn't get many sales either. As I learned more about writing, I realized the trilogy needed a huge overhaul and so pulled them from Amazon. My recently published sci-fi novel has been a 5-year work-in-progress. I've spent time both writing and learning. I've learned from how-to books, beta readers, and a professional content editor. It has gone through at least five rewrites and two types of editors.

So the overall advice here is to learn how to do more than put words on paper and do it by seeking the help from readers, other writers, and from professional editors.
Dawn Ross I am currently working on the second novel in my sci-fi series, The Dragon Emperor. The story is written, but is currently being reviewed by a writing/critique group I am part of. The next step will be to hire a content editor. And the final step will be to hire a copy editor.
Dawn Ross I have a very active imagination. And I can't just imagine one story. It never fails for one story to spark another story idea, then another. Soon, I had too many stories in my head and had to put them on paper in order to remember them.

Years ago, I worked as a 9-1-1 operator, night shift. Since night shift was really boring after 2am, I started writing down my stories in between calls. My first stories were a fantasy trilogy.
Dawn Ross The Dragon Spawn Chronicles series has been in my head for many years. It started as one novel, StarFire Dragons, and has grown into a number of novels.

This epic series really first sparked with an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation--Suddenly Human.
