Dee Ernst He felt good out there in the woods, the dirt easily giving way as the shovel went deeper and deeper. Until he stopped to wipe his brow and, looking around, realized that one of the arms was missing.
Dee Ernst Don't take rejection personally. It doesn't matter how good your book is, lots of people won't like it. Don't let that detract from keeping at the job. And it is a job, so treat it as such. Set goals. Always try to improve. Listen to every critic - that's how you learn. Read people you admire. Write what you love.
Dee Ernst I really need to start writing down what I'm doing when I get my ideas, because I have no idea where the inspiration for some of my stories comes from. The new release, Better Than Your Dreams, came from the desire to continue Ben and Mona's love story. But the Hamptons book? No clue.
Dee Ernst I go on Zillow and look at beach houses. That usually gets my creative juices going.
Dee Ernst A comedy - with a romantic sub-plot - about a group of friends vacationing in the Hamptons who get involved with B-list actor and his alleged kidnapping. so far, I'm having a blast.
Dee Ernst You mean aside from going to work in pajamas? I love that I get emails from readers who tell me my book helped them in some way. That makes all the crap that goes along with being a writer worth while.
Dee Ernst I never feel bad about not writing every day - some days, I don't feel like it. But if it's more than a few days, then I try to jump-start my imagination. I read. I also am a huge RPG gamer, so I'll spend a day or two slaying orcs. I write something else - a blog post or short story. Something usually kicks in to get me back on track.
