I get inspired to write by jotting ideas while walking or exercise. My best asset is my mind; I'm a creative person and always seek ideas and/or make connections to circumstances around me. I've learned to NOT wait for inspiration. I am always working on several stories at once, so discipline, exercise, and rest are keys to successful storytelling.

Writers always think of stories. I believe that's a trait of most writers, actually. So I don't get writer's block. I feel drained at times, which means I am lacking focus and direction for my stories. To work through that, I exercise, jot ideas, and get to the keyboard. The BEST way to circumvent feeling unenergized about writing is exercise, a good night's rest, and then getting back to the keyboard!

Book One of the Backyard Model Mysteries was inspired by my backyard, believe it or not. It's a beautiful place with lovely scenery. I stepped into and thought, I need to write a book that somehow includes a gorgeous backyard. I've always loved mysteries, too, so that's how the idea was born!
