This summer i will be reading my submissions queue for the Bram Stoker Awards (i am a Juror, 4 years running). I love discovering new voices in horror this way. I am currently enjoying an astonishing poetry debut by Sara Tantlinger, and Stoker-nominated novel The Apothecary's Curse by Barbara Barnett. My 'beach read' will be JG Ballard's Rushing to Paradise - a timely choice, as Ballard so often is. But i will only hit the beach at night, when the sea threatens to swallow me.

I go for a run, or a walk, in the woods. Clears the air and gives me a fresh perspective, either problem-solving some story issue - or new ideas. Sometimes I socialise, go to a concert, anything that gets me away from the desk for a while. It works too - I'm invariably scribbling something in my notebook by the time i'm on the journey home.
