Sarah E. Boucher I keep picking up books at author events where I'm selling books with other authors...because I love reading other people's novels too! I'm finishing up Jo Schneider's Jagged Scars series (so good! Suspenseful, lots of action, and just a tinge of romance), the last book of which will be out later this year. I also am dying to jump into Robin King's Rembrandt Trilogy (YA Romance, Adventure), Alyson Peterson's Ian Quicksilver (YA Fantasy), and Angela Corbett's Eternal Starling (Paranormal Romance). And about five more books...
Sarah E. Boucher Characters do occasionally make me nuts. When they do, I ask myself if what they're doing is true to who they are or if my story has gone off course. Then I ask myself if the new direction is better than my original plan. Sometimes it requires a little rewriting or the tweaking of the outline to accommodate things you didn't see coming from the beginning. But sometimes you end up with something that works far better than you planned.
Sarah E. Boucher Beauty and the Beast is my all-time favorite fairytale. A while ago, I had the idea of making Beauty into someone truly beastly on the inside and that blossomed into Becoming Beauty. Creating a truly flawed and sometimes hateful heroine was loads of fun! Becoming Beauty is her story of learning the true meaning of beauty.
Sarah E. Boucher I love reading books from all genres! Primarily, my ideas spring from what-ifs that come up while I'm reading something else.
Sarah E. Boucher I'm working on a twist on The Twelve Dancing Princesses! Fairytale retellings are my favorite and this one delivers a huge cast full of mischievous and brilliant sisters. It's a lot of fun to work on!
Sarah E. Boucher Keep writing, reading, and sharing with others. However, be selective about who you show your projects to. There are many well-intentioned people who want to read your stories out of curiousity. What young writers need are people who are strong in areas where they are weak. Constructive criticism is a treasure.
Sarah E. Boucher Many writers are introverts, but this girl? I'm not an introvert! My favorite thing about being an author is chatting with others and making connections. I love that!
Sarah E. Boucher I work on a variety of projects at once to avoid writer's block. During the school year, that means teacher projects on top of writing. But during the summer that means I work on different writing projects (usually from another genre) to keep the juices flowing.
