It starts with the spark of an idea. Scenes build in my brain. Then I can't wait to get started! If I start running out of steam near the end of a novel, that's when I turn to my cover designer. Once I describe how I envision the cover and see the result from my top-notch cover designer, it energizes me to bring the project to full fruition.

I'm currently writing a witch-hunter enemies to lovers series with a crime novel element, while also planning to complete my Pure Faith series. Sometimes you get an idea in your head that you can't wait to start, even if you're not finished with the last.

The freedom to be creative and have as much control over the project as possible, while knowing I can't do it all on my own. There's no feeling better than seeing a new cover from your cover designer or seeing a review from a fellow reader gracious enough to take the time to read your work and leave a comment. (Writers, there's no such thing as a "bad" review, as even those will help someone else decide your book is not going to be their cup of tea.) We want happy readers!

When I ran into writer's block, as a pantser I learned the one thing I didn't want to hear - plotting is key! My first three books were written "as I went along," but I discovered when I plotted my next series in progress (using both a romance and crime plotting method, as both applied to the novel,) the writing went smoother, faster, finished in 1/3 the time and no possibility for writer's block because I knew how the story would go from start to finish. I didn't normally start a new novel until I had two to three scenes in my head, so I started plotting start to finish at that point and bingo!

Stick with it. Learn all you can about the genre and subgenre in which you want to write, what is of interest to readers, and write from the heart. Learn everything you can about the industry, then realize that you still don't know everything. Publishing today is fluid, and not like it was 50 or even 15 years ago. Edit, edit, edit - no one wants to release a product that's riddled with typos and formatting errors. Most importantly (and an issue I deal with on a daily basis,) come to terms with the fact that you cannot do it all on your own. If editing is not your forte, hire what your budget will allow. If you find Photoshop is not user-friendly, have a professional do your cover. Put out the best product that you can - not only for your own integrity, but for the pleasure you want readers to discover within your pages.

The idea for "Flip This Ghost" came to me while passing an old house in Melbourne, FL called the "Green Gables House", which the county is trying to save from demolition. It was built in the late 1800's, has historical significance, and my book is loosely based on its history. That, and my desire to remodel the creepy house myself if I had the money to purchase, brought the idea to fruition.
