Hi Jill,
So sorry I didn't see this message before, I don't get over here very often. I have never promoted my work with speaking engagements, but I do promote my books on YouTube in videos. Good luck with your books, too. Jill. Thank you for the question.

I've had many dangerous things happen to me in my life, yet I always seem to survive by the skin of my teeth, so I began to believe in guardian angels at an early age. I combined that with fantasy and romance and came up with my Ominous Series. My most recent story: Nathaniel Teen Angel is a teenage romance, and as I married my teenage sweetheart, it inspired that story.

My own experiences inspire my stories, but not always. With romance I use my own experiences, but usually a story will just pop into my head. As soon as I start writing, the characters just emerge onto my document and take over. I sometimes wonder where my ideas come from and often wonder how I ever come up with the plots. My endings often shock or surprise me as I never know how they will unfold. Mostly they never turn out as I intend them to, especially in my Ominous Series. It's like the two angels battle my brain for the best part in the story.
Some of my children's stories are taken from my childhood memories, others are stories I just dreamed up.

I'm currently working on my fourth book in my Ominous Series. I've published the (Prequel) Fallen Angel, (Book One) Nathaniel Teen Angel & (Book Two) Ominous Love, and I'm now working on Ominous Angel. I should have had it finished already, but after a fan asked me to write a prequel to Ominous Love, I wrote Fallen Angel and Nathaniel Teen Angel first.

Write everyday. Always believe in your writing no matter what others tell you because there is always someone out there that will love your stories. Join online critique groups like Critique Circle and Absolute Write. After writing your story, let it sit for a while, then go back and edit it until you're happy with it. There are also plenty of editors out there if you can afford it, but you can edit yourself if you study hard enough and critique other authors often. Oh, and read, read, read, especially in the genre you want to write in. I bought myself a pocked grammar book that I keep on my desk.

The best thing about being a writer is escaping to other worlds and meeting the characters that we think we create. :)

I rarely ever get writer's block, but if on rare occasions I do, I go for a long walk in the woods and listen to music.
