How do you deal with writer’s block?
Robert Craven I regularly review CDs and Streamed music for Independent Music Review in Ireland. Writing a review helps the creative juices flow and I play the music over and over again before writing; it has two plusses 1) I'm writing & 2) I get wonderful music for free!

Robert Craven The simplicity - a pen, a piece of paper, and some solitude is all you need. with these simple elements, you can take your fellow human beings on an adventure.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Robert Craven The late great jazz musician Steve Swallow once said his technique was 50% listening and 50% playing. An author, even if they aren't working on a project, should read - everything and anything.
It's cliched but true.

What are you currently working on?
Robert Craven My latest book; A KIND OF DROWNING is a big departure from my spy and espionage books. It's a contemporary Irish Crime novel.

How do you get inspired to write?
Robert Craven I rise at 5 am every morning and at the start of a project begin intensive 1/2hr sessions of free writing before plotting out the book. When I am between projects I read extensively and when a great book grabs me, I can get inspired then.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Robert Craven I got the idea for Eagles Hunt Wolves after reading Lionel Davidson's 'Kolymsky Heights', and a week's holiday in Berlin. I found the city enthralling and I wanted to end Eva's adventures post WW2 and set it in the city where her adventures began.

Can you tell us a two-sentence horror story?
Robert Craven Every year, the elders gathered at the graveyard to open and examine the graves. As the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the countryside, the last coffin opened was empty.

If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?
Robert Craven The beat world of Jack Kerouac, the run down to New Orleans in 'On The Road' paints a wonderful landscape.
