1. You have to love something that you want to share with others. Otherwise a lot of issues will deter you to finish.
2. You can to find out if there is any competition on the topic and evaluate if you can bring something new, different, valuable to the reader.
3. You have to build a skeleton table of content. Then go one level deeper to add small bones and see if the shape of what you envision can be sustained by this skeleton. Then ask others you can trust to provide a feedback. In many cases you forgot something... Afterwards start putting meat on each bone until the book looks like what you imagined. In reality when you think you are done , the DRAFT is done only... You can ask others again to see if your text really covers the bones or not.
4. You may re-write your manuscript in part or totally 5-10 times until you and the reviewers agree that there is a reason to invest the money to get it printed.
5. Time to decide how you want to print: going to a big editor house or doing printing-on-demand. Each of these options have pros and cons that you will have to judge based on your personal situation.
