Bruce Kimmel I would travel back in time in any of the novels I've written that take place in Los Angeles in the past, which is almost all of them. Of other books, it would be fun to go back to the world in Jack Finney's Time and Again, NY at the turn of the century. In terms of what I would do there - if it's the LA of the past, say my childhood, I'd obviously visit all my haunts - record stores, movie theaters, my old neighborhood, house, restaurants...
Bruce Kimmel Just finished the James Lapine book on the making of Sunday in the Park with George. And summer is over :) I haven't read any fiction in a long time because I write it.
Bruce Kimmel Hmmm. I've used incidents from my own life in all my mysteries, kinda sorta :) But the most personal of them was called Rewind.
Bruce Kimmel It was a dark and stormy night. He'd just had his left arm eaten by an Armenian with a bad underbite and it was only the beginning.
Bruce Kimmel I've never had it, although my fourth book and my first mystery is entitled of all things, Writer's Block. If I get stuck on something I go take a shower and it comes to me. Always. Sometimes it's two or three showers a day, but it always works. Also, if I'm stuck I'll just barrel on knowing it's not good, but it keeps me going, then I go back and fix it - but I haven't stalled.
Bruce Kimmel For me, it's an art form in which there's no collaboration whatsoever - you're on your own, you please yourself and hope everyone comes along for the ride. It's just you and what comes out of your fingers, mind, heart, and soul. What's better than that?
Bruce Kimmel Do it. Don't think about it, don't procrastinate, sit down and DO it.
Bruce Kimmel Just finished my sixteenth book - Patrick Bronstein Presents - I had a great time writing it - it's a real comic Hollywood novel.
Bruce Kimmel I just love writing, I don't need to be inspired to do it. I've written a book a year since 2001 and I can't think of any other better way to start a new year. I begin writing on the first of January and work every day until I'm done.
Bruce Kimmel I created one of my favorite characters in my Adriana Hofstetter mystery series - he appears in all the books from the third book on. He's an 84-year old movie producer and I thought it would finally be fun to know his story, and that's what Patrick Bronstein Presents is.
