Michael Kan I've been wanting to write a science fiction book since I was a kid. I've loved the genre, ever since I first saw Star Trek and Star Wars when I was 4 or 5.

I started thinking about trying to really write something after I graduated college, and when I was 23 I had time to come up with an idea for my novel. Some of the book is inspired by sci-fi books, movies and even video games and anime. But also a lot of it comes from experiences I had during my 20s, and trying to find my place in the world.
Michael Kan A lot of it has to do with letting your imagination run wild. Just thinking up fun ideas and playing around with them. This is especially true for science fiction writing. The story needs to be grounded in logic, but then again the possibilities can be near endless when one is imagining the future or some alien world. The writing can also feel quite personal when you start basing the story off of real events, or your own experiences. And I think that can fuel your writing.
Michael Kan It's like being on an adventure. There are ups and downs with the writing. You are coming up with great ideas, and putting them to paper. At the same time, you find yourself struggling to start a new sentence or chapter. But ultimately, it's fun and satisfying, especially when you craft something you are proud of. A special kind of enjoyment you can't find anywhere else.
